Surrey RCMP host spring Neighbourhood Safety Meetings

This spring, the Surrey RCMP and partners will once again be hosting a series of Neighbourhood Safety Meetings to share information about localized crime trends and current actions underway to address these crimes. Residents will also have an opportunity to discuss their concerns and make recommendations to improve safety in their neighbourhood.

The Neighbourhood Safety Meetings will be hosted by senior Surrey RCMP police officers and attended by local Community Response Unit and Youth Unit officers. Representatives from the City of Surrey’s Bylaws and Parks departments will be attending as well as those from the Safe Schools program. The City of Surrey’s Public Safety Strategies Director, Dr. Terry Waterhouse, will also be speaking at these events (with the exception of April 5th).

The Neighbourhood Safety Meetings will build on the success of previous events which have helped bring police and the community closer together to help resolve issues and foster a continued dialogue about public safety, says Superintendent Shawn Gill, Community Services Officer. Together with our city and community partners, we are committed to sharing information and engaging with the public to address their public safety concerns.

Cloverdale – April 20th from 6:30pm-8:30pm, Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary (6151 180th Street

Announcement that the next meeting of the Bolivar Heights Community Association will occur on Monday December 5, at 7 pm, at the Masonic Hall located at 14042 Grosvenor Road. We encourage all residents to attend!

Some of the topics of discussion include "Public Safety" in our neighbourhood, a review of the successful "Downzoning Proposal" in the "Bolivar Park" area of BH, some general information about the new "Off-Leash Dog Park" at Lower Bolivar Park, and general updates on several "Development Proposals" in our area. Please bring your ideas and questions as well.

A flyer is attached, please feel free to circulate among your neighbours. The meeting will run from 7 to about 9, and then there will be a brief AGM. We are looking for new neighbours to join us in making a positive contribution to our neighbourhood, and would value your input.

City of Toronto chief planner Jennifer Keesmaat sees transportation infrastructure as much more than ‘steel wheels on steel rails,’ and much more than just a means of moving people from point A to point B. As the public face of Toronto’s many urban initiatives, Jennifer turns our attention to the opportunities that surface light rail transit can bring to a city—from connecting local people with local jobs, to re-envisioning streets and entire communities. Jennifer demonstrates that progressive city building requires a new approach to rapid transit and that the two are intrinsically intertwined.

Jennifer Keesmaat is the chief planner of the City of Toronto, and a former urban design consultant. Before that, she had worked on master plans in Toronto, Vancouver, Mississauga, Vaughan, Regina, Saskatoon, Lethbridge, Moncton, London and Halifax, and was a founding partner at DIALOG. She became the chief planner of Toronto in September 2012.
Jennifer is a registered professional planner, an award-winning member of the Canadian Institute of Planners and a member of the Congress for New Urbanism. She holds a master’s degree in urban planning from York University, where she studied the political processes that shape urban environments. She is a regular guest lecturer at York University, the University of Toronto and Ryerson University.
She was named one of the ‘most influential’ people in Toronto by Toronto Life Magazine in 2015, and one of the ‘most important’ people in Canada by Macleans Magazine in 2013.
