Town Hall on Railway Noise in Surrey North

Thursday, January 22

6:30 pm – 8:00 pm

Bridgeview Community Centre

11475 126A Street

My office often receives complaints about the railway noise in the north part of the riding. Residents in the areas of Bridgeview, Bolivar Heights and Royal Heights have been actively reporting their concerns about railway noise from the Thornton rail yard. If this is your concern, I invite you to join me for a public town hall on this issue.

This is an issue that has long roots in Surrey North. While whistling at railway crossings can be controlled through municipal by-laws, the Thornton rail yard operates within a gap of legislation. In an effort to bridge this gap, Peter Julian, NDP MP for Burnaby-New Westminster, will be presenting information on his Bill C-393 – The Railway Noise and Vibration Control Act.

As in every facet of my work as a Member of Parliament, my main goal during this meeting is to listen to the concerns of the residents of Surrey North, which will help inform my priorities in Ottawa. I hope that you will join me, but if you are not available and still interested, please feel free to share your experiences with my office.

For further information please call 604-589-2441 or email Jasbir.Sandhu @parl.gc.ca

Warm regards,

Jasbir Sandhu, MP

Surrey North

Bring your ideas and concerns and let's try to get some committees together to work on these issues.

Both events will be held at SFU Surrey (13450 102 Avenue, Surrey).

If you would like a question on a specific area given to all candidates in advance, please send your area of interest or question to info@downtownsurreybia.com no later than October 9, 2014. We do not guarantee all questions will be included but want to cover the important areas of concern.
