Registration for the 2016 Surrey and SFU Transportation Talks Program (previously known as the “Transportation Lecture Program”) is now open! Website Link is http://www.surrey.ca/city-services/7097.aspx

I took this program in 2011, and found it to be very interesting, and it gave me a lot of insight into how CoS is able to grant funding for Transportation Projects like sidewalks. Mark

The program brings together residents, senior Surrey staff, and guest lecturers from TransLink, Metro Vancouver, and private industry to discuss planning and transportation practice in the City of Surrey. Participants will have the opportunity to design solutions to local transportation issues, with help from classmates and staff, and pitch these solutions to Surrey management for construction/implementation! Please see below to learn more.

About the Lecture Program

The Transportation Talks Program is presented in partnership by the City of Surrey and the SFU City Program. This annual course is a comprehensive introduction to transportation in the Lower Mainland, with a particular focus on Surrey. Speakers include senior staff from City of Surrey, TransLink, Metro Vancouver, the development industry and others. The program also features several field trips, including site visits on a chartered TransLink bus as well as an interactive walking tour of City Centre. You’ll learn about how transportation planning decisions are made, but it’s also a great opportunity to meet others, ask questions, and give back to your community by solving local transportation issues or making improvements.

No expertise is required, just an interest in transportation and/or community planning.

TransLink has started planning and project development for the Pattullo Bridge Replacement Project, and are looking for public input on the community connections.

In their June 2014 Regional Transportation Investments – a Vision for Metro Vancouver, the Mayors' Council on Regional Transportation identified that the Pattullo Bridge replacement will be a "new, four-lane bridge, primarily funded by user pricing.

The replacement bridge will be designed in a manner so as not to foreclose the consideration to six lanes, subject to all-party agreement and Mayors' Council approval." Get involved between June 13 and July 11, 2016 by attending a Public Open House, RSVP for a small group meeting, or take the online survey. Additional open houses and small meetings are being held in New Westminster too. -
